The National Alliance for Mental Health (NAMI) is the largest grassroots mental health organization in the U.S., with state organizations and affiliates across the country working in five key areas: support, education, awareness, advocacy, and research. Founded in 1979, NAMI has advocated for national investment in mental health research, parity for mental healthcare, and worked to raise awareness and reduce stigma around mental health issues, which affect nearly 60 million Americans each year.
NAMIWalks, which celebrates its 12th anniversary this year, is a key component of NAMI’s awareness efforts. Tens of thousands of individuals are expected to take part in walks throughout the U.S. during 2014 in order to raise money and awareness for an improved treatment and recovery system for those suffering from mental illness.
The 2014 NAMIWalk North Carolina was on May 3rd and took place on the Dorothea Dix Campus in Raleigh. It was a great success and we hope you can register next year as an individual or team and support our local NAMI organization’s fundraising goals. For those located elsewhere, you can also search for walk locations by state.
Hope to see you out walking to support mental health here in NC or across the U.S.!
