I was saddened to hear of the passing of the long-time supporter of the UNC Center of Excellence for Eating Disorders, Senator John Kerr III. Pictured here (far right) at our ribbon cutting ceremony in 2003, Senator Kerr was instrumental in working with Rita Robbins to establish the first endowed professorship in eating disorders in the country here at UNC and in opening what was then called the UNC Eating Disorders Program. Until recently when his health began to decline, I always looked forward to the random calls I would get from Senator Kerr checking in on “How things were going over there.” He remained a dedicated supporter of our mission and always took time to listen to what we were accomplishing and any hurdles that were standing in our way. On behalf of all of us at CEED, our thoughts are with Senator Kerr’s family during this time and we will always remember his warm heart and belief in what we do.
